Babies, snakes and donkeys

Last weekend I flew back to California to spend some time with my friends Carlen and Jim. I met Carlen about 10 years ago at Pismo Beach Athletic Club where we were both massage therapists. She was just leaving to run off into the sunset with Jim and I was just starting. We became friends and her and Jim continue to enrich the lives of everyone they come in contact with, human or animal.
Below is her son Kelly, who’s wedding I had the great fortune of photographing in Maui 4 years ago and his handsom son, Jett. Jett is on the left and his friend, Race is on the right. Cool names, huh?

Carlen’s friend, Piper, showed up on Sunday with all kinds of entertainment including this corn snake, which was passed around all afternoon.

Another one of Piper’s pets, Quackers the duck and Jim, THE Man.

Their Awesome with a capitol A house.

Fletcher is 2 months old and is Jim and Carlen’s newest grandson. When he talks, everyone listens.

Lulu is a Mammoth donkey. She’s very cool and very loved. She also has laminitis, which her vet Andy is taking good care of. Poor baby. She’s getting better though.  When she talks, people listen to her too.

Jill is a Aussie and I was told that Austrailians hate snakes because all of theirs are poisonous. This one is nice so Jill liked it. A lot.

Fletcher and his adoring, head over heels in love mom, Erin.

Hanging out with his dad, Alec before a big meeting.

Agapanthis. aka purple fireworks.

I really feel very fortunate to have such wonderful friends in my life. It hurts that we live so far apart. I went and saw the movie Charlie St. Cloud tonight with Madison and little Sam tells his big brother Charlie, “You hurt because you’re alive.” He’s right and at the moment I wasn’t sure if it was a good or bad thing. Thanks, Carlen and Jim for making the hurt feel better. I love you guys.

Friends make the world a better place.

This is my friend Maria who is also my Zoe’s second mom. She watched Zoe 3 days a week so I can get something done besides coloring or playing with babies. She is teaching Zoe how to speak Spanish too and I love that. Maria is from Equador and her daughter Francheska is also a friend to my oldest, Madison.

Her mom recently came for a visit from Equador and also her sister, Soraya and her family, from Miami. It was raining and almost dark when we finally got around to taking some picturess so I placed them just inside the garage. The natural light was perfect for them and the garage went dark with a mimimum aperature. Shot with Nikon D700 at 1600 ISO and a 70-200 lens at 1/60, 2.8

Latino’s don’t mess around when it comes to an outdoor photo shoot!!

Looking at the future {family}

I haven’t blogged for a while (again) and I could name a few reasons why but instead of pouring my heart out and getting real honest and vulnerable with people who could read this while sipping hot coffee or drinking red wine and they get shocked to hear that I’m not the all-together-got-it-goin-on person that they think I am and then they spill their coffee in their lap or ruin a favorite shirt with the wine, I’ll just post some adorable pictures of some of my favorite people in the world and then you can sigh and go, “Ah, oohhh, that’s so cute,” and everyone will have a warm and fuzzy feeling and I’ll feel good too. ha!
The girls and I went to California for a week and then to Utah, where my family lives. The weather was wonderful, not once did my clothes stick to my skin because of the sweat running down my back and we actually wore hoodies and sweats in the mornings to go to the beach. *another Ah*
Every day in Utah was spent with family, hanging out, talking, laughing, holding babies, saving baby birds from stalking cats and just enjoying each other’s company. The days go by so fast and then we get on a plane and come back to Georgia with a heart full of love, memories and bittersweet partings.
Until we see each other again, I love you.

DJ Anthony and his family

When Madison said she wanted a party with a DJ for her 13th birthday the first thing I did was think “trade.” Surely DJ’s need great pictures of themselves so how about you come and DJ for me and I’ll give you a fabulous photo shoot? Win, win if you ask me. The first guy I asked didn’t seem that interested, (cha!) but it was all my good fortune to find Anthony Hylton because he did an amazing job. The kids loved it and he was happy to be there rockin the music until we had to tell him to stop. His system was portable and high tech and you could tell that he really enjoys what he does.

I met his family a few weeks later and spent time chasing Nina, their 15 month old little darling and chatting and capturing moments between Anthony and his beautiful bride Michelle.  Here are some of my favorites and if you ever need a DJ, you won’t be disappointed with DJ ANT

Proud Momma. {I said mom, not sister}

This is my friend Chris and her beautiful kids, Morgan, Brandon and Brady. She is a FABULOUS interior decorator and her kids are great at everything they do. She tells me she’s married but I don’t believe her becuase she never lets me meet her husband. Really. I actually started to think she was some undercover secret agent but when she came by my house last week I asked her for advice on a few things and within 15 minutes she had made some small adjustments that made a big impact and wants to come back for a decorating party so I guess she’s legit.

I still want to meet her husband though!
